US Forest Service Temporarily Closing All California National Forests
Mammoth Mountain shut down all opperations suddenly on Monday evening when the US Forest Service closed Inyo National Forest. Even though the closure is only through Sept 17, 2021 and could be lifted at any time, the Mammoth Mountain website reads "The Mammoth Bike Park, Via Ferrata and Scenic Gondola are now closed for the summer season."
Here is a link to more information. There is contact info for those who want to ask questions. USDA Forest Service CA National Forest Closure.
There are no fires currently threatening the Mammoth lakes area which brings up a lot of questions. Are day hikes available in the Mammoth area? Can I ride my mountain bike on free public trails in Mammoth Lakes? Will any of the lakes in the Mammoth Lakes basin or June Lake, CA be open for public use? I will update this blog post if I can find answers.

Check out this link to the Mammoth Lakes Tourism website for more info on what's open in Mammoth Lakes. The Inyo National Forest closure does not mean everything is closed. Yosemite National Park is still open along with Bodie State Historic Park. You can go fishing at Crowley Lake and you can still bike on the Mammoth Lakes Town Bike Path. Both golf courses in town are open and so is the Volcom Brothers Skate Park. There is still plenty to do up here and there is no visible smoke in town.
